Abstract
A case of periventricular leukoencephalopathy is described. The infarctions were predominantly located in the periventricular arterial end and border zones. The cerebral lesions were secondary to the effects of an acute decrease in cardiac output on a barely adequate arterial blood supply to the left hemisphere. The mechanism responsible for this variety of white matter infarction has been described.
