Abstract

On September 23, 1997, a satellite symposium was held during the First Annual Scientific Meeting of the Heart Failure Society of America in Baltimore, Maryland. The symposium was entitled 'Improving Clinical Outcomes and Cost-Effectiveness in the Advanced Heart Failure Patient' and was presented by a faculty of excellent investigators. The focus of the symposium was to consider that, as we develop a greater level of expertise in caring for the patient with mild to moderate heart failure, we will ultimately encounter an ever growing number of patients who reach the advanced stages of the syndrome.
