Abstract

Considerable evidence supports consideration of body dysmorpbic disorder (BDD) and obsessive-compulsive disorder as related disorders. BDD may share common phenomenological and neurobiological features with OCD and other disorders characterized by repetitive thougts and behaviors, and mediated by serotonin dysfunction. Within this substrate, specific psychological and sociological factors may shape the specific BDD syndrome. Further research incorporating dimensional models of these disorders, may delliniate specific similarities and differences.
