Abstract

The x-ray photoemission spectra (XPS) of the series of compounds K2Pt(CN)4X0.3•nH2O, where X=Cl and Br, have been measured. Satellites are observed on the Pt(4f), N(1s), and C(1s) lines and are shown to arise from simultaneous excitation of the Pt(CN)4 complex during photoemission. The positions and widths of the Pt(4f) levels indicate that the Pt(5dz2) electrons are delocalized with a variation of electron density between any two Pt sites being 0.2 electrons.
