The use of plasmapheresis during exchange transfusion for hepatic encephalopathy

Abstract

Four adolescent patients were treated for hepatic coma; none survived. A modified technique of exchange transfusion, using the principle of plasmapheresis, was employed in 2 patients. The results suggest that this technique deserves further trial in the management of hepatic coma.
