Stress radionuclide myocardial perfusion imaging with thallium-201 provides powerful prognostic information for patients with known or suspected ischemic heart disease. Data from this noninvasive technique are consistently among the best predictors of future cardiac events and are often superior to data obtained by coronary angiography. The newer technetium-based perfusion agents promise expanded applications of radionuclide perfusion imaging.
