Abstract

The quantification of mitral valve regurgitation based on normalized velocity distribution was discussed. Computational fluid dynamics simulations were performed using a geometry consisting of 2 large cylindrical tanks, modeling the left ventricle and the left atrium, with a circular orifice connecting both chambers. The Normalized Velocity Distribution (NVD) equation demonstrated close agreement (y = 0.93x + 0.26, r = 0.997).
