Problems of anesthesia in patients with neuromuscular disease

This article presents a brief overview of the anesthetic considerations for patients with neuromuscular diseases. It is clear that an informed anesthesiologist can safely anesthetize these patients by making reasoned choices for the anesthetic plan. Because there is concurrent multisystem involvement in many of these patients, it is imperative that respiratory and cardiac functions, as well as the neurologic and musculoskeletal systems and the magnitude of the operative intervention, be considered when prescribing an anesthetic for these patients.
