Abstract

Primordial and primary prevention of premature cardiovascular disease has become an important focus of preventive healthcare in the pediatric population. The purpose of this review is to describe current guidelines for lipid screening in the USA and the rationale for the guidelines, including evolution of the guidelines, controversies regarding universal lipid screening, and differences between the pediatric and adult lipid screening guidelines.
