A model for analyzing polarization transfer via thermal mixing at high magnetic strengths has been developed. This model of electron cross-relaxation is used to study the field dependence of dynamic nuclear polarization and electron-electron double resonance. Polarization transfer proceeds via spin flip-flops between pairs of electronic spin packets whose Zeeman temperatures can differ from one another. The mechanism describes the spin dynamics of the 4-amino-TEMPO system.
