Abstract

The morphology and karyotype of Camptochironomus setivalva (Shilova) larva are described for the first time. The species-specific features of structure and coloration in the frontal apotome, of gula and postoscipital margin, mandibular hooks, and ventromental plates are characteristic for the larva. A C. setivalva karyotype has the arm combination CF AB ED G, typical for the subgenus Camptochironomus. The large heterochromatinized centrometric bands and unique banding patterns in all the chromosome arms distinguish C. setivalva karyotype from those of other Camptochironomus species. The larval morphology and karyotype of C. setivalva are more similar to those of C. tentans than to that of other species of Camptochironomus subgenus.
