Abstract

The percentage of our population with chronic and terminal illness is on the rise, largely due to increasing numbers of elderly and advances in medical technology and chemotherapy (Forsylh, Delaney, and Gresham 1984; Wilson and Drury 1984). Cost containment is now a major issue in the health arena, causing a shift in treatment from long-term hospital stays.
