Abstract

In summary, the trial by Kontos et al has provided important evidence in the evaluation of cost-effectiveness when a comprehensive approach involving acute rest MPI is used. Hospital overcrowding has become a common problem across the United States. The approach described in this article may help to reduce unnecessary admissions, where appropriate patients with chest pain can be discharged home safely from the ED after acute rest MPI. This strategy will help utilize cardiac-monitored beds for critical patients who require in-hospital evaluation.
