Abstract

Adolescents are directly in the path of the HIV epidemic. Recent data suggest that HIV infection has entered many segments of the adolescent population. This article provides a review of the epidemiology of AIDS and HIV among adolescents, strategies for identifying high-risk adolescents, and guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of HIV-related diseases in adolescents. Strategies for prevention and risk reduction are provided.
