Abstract
Several authors consider anemia as a manifestation of lead toxicity. Occupational lead exposure takes place mainly through inhalation and breath absorption of this metal in industrial operations commonly found in battery factories. This study was meant to establish an association with and between lead levels and blood parameters (hemoglobin and hematocrit) in workers of a battery factory. The average levels of lead concentration in the group exposed to lead and in the control group were 45.0 mg/dL and 7.0 mg/dL, respectively. Comparing the median using Mann-Whitney test, the results showed statistical difference between the levels of lead and hemoglobin and hematocrit in the group under lead exposure when compared to the control group.
