Abstract

The opiate antagonist naloxone, at doses as low as 0.1 mg/kg, antagonizes the enhancing effect of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive agent in marijuana, on dopamine efflux in brain-reward-relevant dopamine circuits, implicating an endogenous opioid mechanism in marijuana's euphorigenic effect.
