Abstract

A tracheal pouch containing 8-9 cartilage rings was constructed in rabbits. The histology of the pouch showed intact cartilaginous rings, submucosa and mucosa. Plasma cells were present in the lamina propria. The pouches could be maintained free of infection for extended periods. The pouch mucus contained secretory IgA.
