Abstract

The bulk copolymerization of trioxane and ethylene oxide was studied. The effect of different copolymerization conditions on the yield of polyacetal and the thermal stability of the product was investigated. These conditions include the proportion of comonomer ethylene oxide, the quantity of catalyst, the time of polymerization and the temperature of polymerization. At the same time, the effects of comonomer ethylene oxide and dioxolane on the copolymerization were compared. The results show that when trioxane is copolymerized with the low cost ethylene oxide, both the thermal stability of the product and its molecular weight are high. Hence, the copolymerization of trioxane with ethylene oxide seems to be better than with dioxolane.
