Abstract
The accuracy of the estimation of iron absorption from a test dose of iron59 depends upon there being no quantitatively significant exchange between mucosal or body iron and iron in the gut lumen. The validity of this assumption for the rat and dog was supported in studies utilizing iron59 as a label for mucosal and total body iron.
