Abstract

To the Editor: Although we agree with Keith et al. (Dec. 12 issue)¹ that there has been progress in affirmative action in medical education, we are concerned about the report by Shea and Fullilove (Oct. 10 issue)² of a decline in the proportion of minority students entering medical schools since 1975, “as well as in programs available to help them succeed.” Anticipating the need for innovative approaches to ensuring the representation of members of minority groups, Boston University began developing such a program in 1980.
