Abstract

A description of the resonance Raman scattering of hemeproteins from 200 cm-1 to 3000 cm-1 is given in terms of a vibronic analysis of the resonant states including non Born-Oppenheimer contributions. The spectrum of reduced cytochrome-c is used to illustrate the basic principles including the influence of the absorption lineshape on the resonance behavior. The appearance of combinations and overtones is discussed as is the possibility of attributing certain low frequency peaks to anti-Stokes scattering in the Stokes region of the spectra.
