Investigating the functional roles of CTSH and PGM1 in beta-cells during autoimmune diabetes development

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

Project Narrative Type 1 diabetes is caused autoimmune destruction of the pancreatic beta-cells, but currently there is no therapy that can provide long-lasting improvements in beta-cell function. The aim of this project is to understand the mechanistic roles of two type 1 diabetes loci, CTSH and PGM1, in beta-cells. The proposed experiments will inform us whether these gene products could be targeted to enhance endogenous beta-cell function in type 1 diabetes.
